Mondays can be pretty challenging for even the most organized and dedicated among us. I am a person who historically emerges on Tuesdays, much like a butterfly from the cocoon. Today I had to be out there in the world, being professional and all that. I thought I would share three things that gave me a little spark today to keep me going.
Canadian Water Summit Tomorrow, I'm going to ply you with all sorts of information about an event I get to attend this coming Thursday - the
Canadian Water Summit. I'm counting down the days.
Here's a little teaser:
Fresh (the movie)
Today I saw an announcement for the upcoming screening and panel discussion of Fresh - a new documentary by Ana Sofia Joanes that examines the consequences of our industrial food system and offers a practical alternative for how we grow, buy and eat our food. (The
FoodShare event/screening in Toronto is August 26th from 6:30 to 9:30 at Bloor Cinema - get more details
here.) I'm especially fond of this quote from the film trailer:
"Chemical agriculture is like a drug trip - it takes more and more every year to get the same kick."
New Roots for Refugees Farm
Earlier today, I tweeted a fabulous story I read in
Grist Magazine about a program back home in Kansas City. (
You'll recall that I am on an on-going mission to battle all the negative p.r. that comes out of Missouri because of Monsanto's headquarters in St. Louis.) The program is a pretty comprehensive model for connecting women who are refugees with the land, while simultaneously building their capacity for success in farming. Check out the full piece
