Can mini cows save the planet?

Knowing what I know about cows, land use and methane, I find it hard to believe that a mini version of the "cow culprit" is the planet's saving grace. But, hell, what do I really know? Maybe mini cows are the key.

The Guardian reports that "farms are ditching Holsteins and Aberdeen Angus for their smaller counterparts, and there are now well over 20,000 mini cows in the U.S." It is possible to raise ten miniature cows on five acres, rather than just two full-sized cows, meaning that land could yield up to three times as much beef - but the cows only need one third of the feed. The Guardian points out that though it sounds innovative, mini cows date back to the 1600's.

It seems that in an ideal world, we'd shrink the cows and fatten up the squirrels for more sustainable eating.
