The Main Ingredient is CBC's food show that feeds your head.It features underknown, surprising, topical and probing stories behind the food you thought you knew. Don't expect to tune in and hear about how to choose the best balsamic vinegar or wine to pick with tuna. The Main Ingredient is more about food issues and food anthropology and food philosophy. The show will also dive into stories about modern food marketing, the fast food industry and even the urban farm......ever heard of meat in a petri dish?We tell stories about how food impacts our lives. [I encourage this dialogue to stretch further to "how our relationship to food impacts the world"]Host Khalil Akhtar has been CBC's national radio food columnist for more than two years. He has also worked as a news reporter, producer, newsreader and host.

3Hells no Melanie - in fact one of my biggest pet peeves is Food Network - back in days of old it was educational and informative and actually showed people cooking, talking about ingredients and occasionally traveling the world to show us food of other cultures. Now it's just food reality shows "ultimate disney party cakes!" "top chef masters v 4" and quasi celebrity chefs like Gordon Ramsey screaming at people. I've actually stopped watching altogether and instead watch PBS on Saturday mornings for repeats of Rick Bayless's show Mexico One Plate at a Time, America's Test Kitchen, Julia Childs, Victory Garden and more!
Thanks for tipping me off to this show - and cheers to CBC - I'm setting my PVR right now!
ReplyOkay Episode 9 discussing Canadian cuisine is fantastic! Viva la Poutine!
ReplyI caught the show while on the road on Monday - 'chicken slurry', 'meat glue' are now terms I will not forget (from the feature on 'artificial' food).
